Celebrating a Landmark Achievement in Climate-Smart Water Innovation!

 

We are thrilled to announce that Sinazongwe Town Council has taken 1st Place at the Local Government Awards of Excellence for our groundbreaking initiative: "Climate-Smart Water Reticulation – A Local Innovation in Sinazongwe District!"  


Under the visionary leadership of Council Secretary Madam Choolwe Maunga, and driven by a dedicated team including:  

🔹 Eng. Moffat Mtonga (Director of Engineering)  

🔹 Eng. Mpala Chongaya (Assistant Director of Engineering, who delivered the winning presentation)  

🔹 Owen Malawo (Health Inspector)  

🔹 Dr. Chalemba Shonga (District Veterinary Officer)

we have demonstrated how local innovation can combat drought by deploying solar-powered mechanized water systems. These include:  

💧 Pillar taps & water kiosks for communities  

🐄 Animal drinking troughs for livestock  

🌱 Irrigation provisions to support agriculture  


With 17 water schemes already operational and 9 more underway, this initiative highlights how the Expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF) can effectively tackle local challenges through homegrown, sustainable solutions.  

This award is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and resilience in the face of climate change. We remain committed to ensuring water security, food security, and improved livelihoods for the people of Sinazongwe.
